I can’t see my child’s web history

If you’re not sure what version of Android your child has click here.

Android Marshmallow and Nougat

Only the Web History feature will work on these versions of Android, however you will still see searches appear in the Web History section like this.

search history

The Web History feature only works for Chrome browser at the moment (we’re looking into making it available for other browsers as well). So if you’re not seeing any Web History on your child’s device then can you:

  1. Make sure that Screen Time on your child’s device is updated to the latest version. Click here to see how.
  2. Then you need to make this change on your child’s device Android Settings >> Accessibility >> Screen Time and turn that to On.
  3. Make sure that Chrome browser is installed on your child’s device.
  4. Then add all other web browser on the device to the Blocked Apps list. This will ensure that kids have to use Chrome for web browsing.

Android Lollipop and earlier versions

Screen Time Web and Search History features work by monitoring the default browser in Android. To check if the browser that you’re using is set as default you need to:

  1. Open the Android Settings app >> Apps and select the browser that you want to check.
  2. In there you should see a message that says “You’ve chosen to launch this application by default”.
  3. Open the web browser on your child’s device and open it’s Web History to make sure that there are some web sites listed there.
  4. If there is web history in there, and the web browser is set as the default, you should see the web history start to appear in Screen Time over the next few hours.

Are you making any progress getting this to work with android marshmallow?

Hi Ric, I’m afraid we haven’t had any progress on this yet. Hopefully there will be some news later on in the year, when that happens I’ll be in touch.
