Troubleshooting Screen Time on an iPad or iPhone

If you are having issues with Screen Time not working on an iPad or iPhone then follow these steps to ensure everything is set up correctly:

  1. Check that Screen Time is installed on your child’s device and is running in the background*
  2. Check that Location Services are enabled for Screen Time on your child’s device. If this is being disabled then you can prevent that by opening Apple Settings >> General >> Restrictions >> Enable Restrictions. Then scroll down to and tap Location Services finally tap Don’t Allow Changes.
  3. Open Screen Time on your child’s device and follow any instructions to walk through installing the device management profile.

*Be aware that if your child is currently in a blocked Screen Time period like a Pause or Bedtime Blocker or if they have already used up their daily limit then Screen Time may be hidden (along with all the other non-system apps) on their device.
